How to tell if an online job is a scam

There are many people, including myself, who are searching for legitimate online jobs. There are some companies who do allow you to work from the comfort of your own home but often then not there are scammers who are just looking to cheat you for your money. Here are tips to avoid being scammed on your search for legitimate jobs.

Tip 1

The one’s that you should avoid are the ones who promise you or try and tell you that you will earn lots for very little or no work. If you see jobs like this then don’t bother applying this is most likely going to be a scam.

Tip 2

If there is a vacancy but does not include details apart from an email address it is wise to be cautious. You should ask; who is the company? How long have they been established? Etc.

Tip 3

It is good to do all your research. Don’t worry it doesn’t need to be difficult. Just google the company. People who have been scammed have set up websites naming and shaming the companies who have ripped them off, see if the company you want to work for is there.

Tip 4

If you are asked for a fee then again this is likely to be a scam. Why should you pay? There are legitimate sites for freelancers who ask people to bid for jobs which are legitimate. But this is not the same as the fees you will be asked for. You might be asked to pay a fee for;

If you are serious about working from home why not try local businesses. Some are new to the idea of telecommuting so it is important for you to tell them about the benefits of allowing employees to work from home and why you personally want to. At least you will have the chance to visit and see the business you want to work for.
